Bottle Gourd (scientifically known as Lagenaria siceraria) is a running or climbing vine of the gourd family. These vines are quick-growing annuals with hairy stems, long forked tendrils, and a musky odour. Bottle gourds contain folates, vitamin C, thiamin, niacin (vitamin B-3), vitamin B-5, vitamin B-6 and minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, manganese and magnesium. Consumption of bottle gourd aids digestion, reduces blood pressure, keeps heart healthy and is popular for weight loss.
